Friends in Need....

Woah! 2 posts in 1 day... Get me!
I had pneumonia a few weeks back & last week my youngest had his adenoids & grommets removed & had complications, on top of that the boiler finally died after a long illness! (No hot water since March & then no heating either!) So, things have been getting me down in the dumps... It's true they come in threes!
Good job I have a great friend & neighbour! She helped me out no end so I made her a card... This ones hand drawn too!

It's December Already!

I know, my posting has been non existent lately & you know what that means.... Yep! A gigantic post to catch up!
Perhaps I should take a course on how to not be rubbish at blogging!
Ok, here's my latest makes....
The pink card with butterflies on it was made for Isla, my step granddaughter, for her christening.
The new home card was made for my cousin, Emma. She has moved to France with her family.
Dads card features The Saints rugby shirt...he's a fan!
The spotty card with a huge cake on was for Isla's 1st birthday.
My father in law, Ken's card was hand drawn by me. He loves travelling in his Motorhome so thought I'd draw it!
Last but not least, is another hand drawn card. I drew an owl for my friend Maria. She's a brown owl for her local Brownies & collects them so it was very apt!
I really like doing hand drawn cards, it stretches me. I love a good stretch!
I haven't done anything on the journal front for ages as I have Isla 3 days a week. I have one free day a week to do arty stuff & I've mostly been doing personal cards, as you can see! I have a commission for the Towcester Brownies to do that is due in January, so I have been doing that as & when too. I'll post pics when it is finished!
Thanks for looking!

10 years ago today me & the love of my life got together. I made him this...

Art Geeks: 1 Photo 1 Year Challenge.

I've become part of an online art community & this week Christy posted a challenge to draw from the same photo everyweek for a year. This is to see if there is an improvement in our drawing skills after drawing the same thing for 52weeks. Practice makes perfect afterall! I printed off a pic of my husband Neil. I don't draw men usually, infact I've never drawn Neil until now! So this is a good challenge for me. I will be drawing the same pic everyweek to see if I do get better! Don't judge too harshly... It's my first attempt!

Little Photo Book

I know it's been a little while since my last post. I'm recovering from pneumonia at the moment so everything seems to take me just that little bit longer!
Anyway, my dad had asked me ages ago about making an album for him. So I raided my mums albums, my albums & family Facebook profiles & collected a few photos together. I didn't want to use the originals so I scanned them & printed them onto photo paper. I used 8 5"x7" recycled greetings cards, that I glued back to back to make the 'pages'. I used loads of scrap paper that I had, washi tapes, stickers, stamps & ribbon on the pages to give a scrapbook feel to it, & glued the photos in. I made the cover from a cardboard shoe box & some ribbon.
I really enjoyed making this for my dad. I hope he likes it!

Art Geeks: Creature Prompt.

Thursday is my most favorite day.. It's the day I play with my inks, paints & arty stuff. It's my therapy day for want of a better description! So today I made creatures... Instinct, Knowledge & Strength. On the back of the tag that 'Knowledge' is on I have written things I need to remember.

Art Geeks: Faces & Photos Journal Prompt.

I'm now a member of a page on Facebook called Art Geeks. Its a group for people who enjoy journalling, mixed media & art in general. They are a friendly & inspiring lot! Anyway, this week I decided to have a go at a prompt. A prompt is an idea for a page in our journals. How we interpret it is up to the individual. Actually, I combined 2! Faces & photos. I started with a photo of me as a small child (wasn't I cute?) & I did a loose interpretation of a self portrait! Anyway, my point was my journey from child to who I am today & that my journey of creating myself continues...

My new love....

Today I started my art journal. My mum got me & the kids sketch pads so we could do art together. I have wanted to start journalling for ages so I got all my supplies at the kitchen table and got the kids to put their aprons on. We had one objective.... Make some art! No rules, just do what you feel! Kids loved it. I loved it. I love making art & I love spending time with my kids. Time well spent in my opinion!
Here's pics of the front cover & first page in mine. I also added a pocket on the inside of the cover to store collage cutouts etc.. Kids didn't want to show theirs yet....

Card for Suzi's friend...

My friend Suzi asked me to make her a card for her friends wedding. I scanned the invite into my laptop so I could use the butterflies from it as part of the card. I also used the poem that Suzi was reading at the ceremony. I love using serif craft artist for cards like this. I decoupaged  the butterflies and added a little irridescent glitter to give them lift. Also used it on the background.

Recycling at its best....

Here's a few pics of some pieces that I've finally finished! The phone holder was made for me by my daughter Lydia, at school. It was just raw wood and plastic when I received it, so I spruced it up with permission! She was really happy with the finished item. The little suitcase was originally a Hello Kitty vanity case that was my daughter, Freya's. The pot was a cleansing pad pot! Recycling at its best!

Wire work

I've not been doing a lot of creating due to the summer hols, but my mum, god bless her, offered to have all 4 monsters for me today! So me being me, decided to have a making day/ chillax day!
I made a wirework  pendant for my friend Deb ages ago but it inspired me to have a go at more wirework.
The heart pendant is Debs.
